EARLIEST RECORDED WELLS, FARGO & CO, VIRGINIA CITY PONY EXPRESS COVER, 10c Brown (143L7). Irregular margins cutting in at bottom, tied by blue "Wells, Fargo & Co. Virginia Cty. N.T. Aug. 17" (1862) oval datestamp struck twice on front only of 3c Pink entire (U35) to San Francisco, presentable example of this 10c Brown franking. The Virginia city Pony Express was inaugurated on August 11, 1862, this cover cancelled six days later is the EARLIEST RECORDED COVER. The first mentioned in the Nathan & Boggs book of 1962 is of September 23, 1862 ! A MAJOR RARITY. Philatelic Foundation certificate.
